When you call Hotel Zero Degrees Danbury your home-away-from-home here in southwestern Connecticut, you’ve got absolutely no shortage of ready options for nightlife entertainment. An array of performance venues lie within visiting distance of our boutique hotel.
Here’s a survey of local theaters—and some of the upcoming must-see attractions at each!
This elegant theater always serves up a rich and varied calendar, and this fall’s no exception. On Saturday, October 14, you can dive headfirst into a celebration of the Doo-Wop era when the Corvettes take the Palace stage. American Idol star Taylor Hicks pays a visit on Saturday, October 21, while things’ll get a little wilder (and interactive) on Friday, October 27 when the Palace Danbury again hosts The Rocky Horror Picture Show. That raucous fun will come followed up the next evening with a concert by Grammy-winner and all-around legend Rickie Lee Jones.
And looking farther down the pike, Louis Prima Jr and the Witnesses will pay tribute to their bandleader’s father—while also very much doing their own thing—on Friday, November 10: Get ready for a full dose of big-band energy!
Situated in a breathtaking 19th-century building that once served as a public library, the Danbury Music Centre has been delighting the community with classical concerts since 1935. The organization hosts a number of local musical institutions: the Danbury Symphony Orchestra, Danbury Community Orchestra, Danbury Concert Chorus, the Madrigal Singers, and the DMC Ambassadors of Music Adult Band.
Some wonderful programs are set for this autumn, including an October 29 performance by the Danbury Symphony Orchestra; the delightfully “throwback” Renaissance Madrigal Dinner on November 4; the Concert Chorus’s Love to the Soul show November 11; and a performance by the Danbury Community Orchestra on December 2.
And a holiday tradition continues on December 8 with the Danbury Music Centre’s presentation of Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker, which’ll muster the talents of the Danbury Symphony Orchestra and a troupe of better than 200 dancers.
Founded in 2000, the Ridgefield Playhouse hosts a delightful variety of events in its packed-to-the-gills annual calendar: everything from standup comedy and big-time touring musicians to film series, performances by local music and dance companies, and student programs.
And “delightfully dizzying variety” is the only way to describe the Playhouse’s forthcoming offerings, which include sets by legendary comedians (e.g., Stephen Wright on October 6, Tracy Morgan on October 13) and some topnotch concerts: Three Dog Knight on October 15, Amos Lee on October 30, Vanessa Williams on November 4, the Brian Setzer Orchestra on November 19, and Rufus Wainright on November 30, to name only a few.
Film buffs, meanwhile, should duly take note of a couple of special happenings in the coming months: a 30th anniversary screening of The Princess Bride on October 18 and a 50th anniversary screening of Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner on December 13.
We’ve merely highlighted a sampling of the upcoming events at the Palace Danbury, the Danbury Music Centre, and the Ridgefield Playhouse. Take a gander at their full calendars and book your room at Hotel Zero Degrees Danbury for convenient accommodations nearby!
